Donegal 2019

Donegal is such a super county, I had to get back. That opportunity arrived in April 2019. When my travel partner fell out the excellent photographer Sean Beagan stepped in and it was great to meet up with Sean who lives in Derry. Once again we started in the South and worked northwards. Here are some of the shots.

Crohy Head sunset. I visited Crohy head on 3 occasions on this visit and got a different feel and dynamic each time.

Arriving at the Great Pollet Sea Arch on the final morning the weather was poor but the sea was active and so i was able to get a creamy feel with a long exposure. Access to this wonderful landmark is blocked by a stubborn farmer. Thankfully Donegal Council and an Bord Pleanala are putting in an access route for the public to go and see this remarkable Arch. I had to walk around the headlands and cliffsides away from the farm to shoot this.

At 5.40am the sky was checked and when a fire red horizon was spotted a mad rush ensued to get down to the Lighthouse from the B&B. the 5km was traveled in record time and the results were worth the effort.

This is my favourite photograph that I have ever taken. I have a large copy hanging up in my front hallway. This was at the very end of the shoot just when you felt the sun might be getting too strong and a 1.2 Reverse Grad was used to try and control the power of the sun. So far it has proved very successful for me. It has been chosen for the MS Calendar for 2020 and I expect more from it in the different calendar and photography competitions it has been entered into.
